I completely agree. Also, they give you something to look up to and to strive towards. People don't want to buy something that they can relate to, they want to climb up to the top and feel like the best, so the best looking people should be selling the product.

For the same reason people love to see stories about celebrities failing at something. Some people like to see successful people taken down a peg because they can't stand the good fortune of others.
Models are...models. The name is all you need. They are there to be a living hanger for the clothes, or to promote a certain ascetic. It times of great food shortage, a large figure ment you were successful enough to feed yourself, so it only follows that in this time of over-abundance a person who can ignore the excess and become small would have a certain appeal because its different than the norm.

with models being as skinny as they are it's not sending out a health message to teenagers who are easy to influence. And some models are naturally skinny but, alot of them aren't and a lot of pressures is on them and thats how we get eating disorders!!!! did u hear about that model that passed out on the runway from malnutrient. So i think models should be alllllll shapes, sizes and colors. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what you think is beautful doesn't necessarily mean that everyone eles fells the same way. So i think everyone should be represented when a clothing designer has a fashion show.

I sorta agree with you. But for some reason, women have embraced fashion models as the ideal body type. They feel they have to live up to that standard. Most models are naturally thin and do not have eating disorders, they just have bodies that display clothes best. Doesn't mean its the most attractive body type. And to be honest, some models, especially runway models have downright strange faces. I don't know why there is so much focus on the models bodies, you're supposed to be looking at the clothes.

You make it sound like skinny people are the only people who can be beautiful. No one is telling models to become fat, they are simply requiring them to be healthy to assure they can continue to do great work on there jobs. Also, No one wants to hire a model who is passing out on the set because he/she hasn't eaten all day (or yesterday or the day before) or who doesn't even show up for a job b/c he/she is in the hospital having a tube shoved down their throat or nose or wherever they stick that thing. Is that the kind of model you want hanging on your daughters wall?

Sorry, but packing on the muscle isn't a danger to your health unless you are using steroids. Being 10lb-20lb underweight and having too little body fat on the other hand is very dangerous.
No-one wants models to be fat, just for them to be healthy. If they are underweight because of their very petite frames, but they still have a healthy body that is fine, otherwise they are putting their own health at risk and are poor role models for the millions of girls who look up to them. Don't be so naive to think it doesn't affect people, young girls are very vulnerable and influential and eating disordres are more prevalent today than they have ever been before.

I am not a thin person - at all.
But I do have friends that are naturally very thin, one even went to the doctor to find out if it is natural. She lives a healthy life, is active and eats A LOT. She is thin. I am not.
I understand that there are models that are naturally thin and healthy, and then it is fine. I do not think people want models to become fat. Not at all, I think they just want all people (big and small so to speak) to have wholesome healthy people to look up to.
Just be healthy and happy and then you will look good, no matter what size.

I don't think they want them to be fat. But I think they applaud people for being at a "comfortable" weight.
That's like saying gay advocates want guys to get it on with eachother. You're taking it a step or two further than what's really going on.
Look at baseball w/ steroids. They're scared young people will think they need to take steroids to succeed in baseball. Steroids are deadly. And starvation is deadly too. I think that's why they want them to not starve themselves... not become fat. I think that would be dumb. I agree with you there. But I don't think that's what they're actually preaching.
But to your credit, America knows nothing about body weight, and what's right and wrong. The whole public perception is completely screwed.

It stems from teenage girls that see ultra skinny models, and think that size 4 isn't good enough so they end up with eating disorders. Trying to emulate someone who is naturally a stick usually ends up with them looking like walking skeletons, which is not healthy nor nice to look at.

Its all the fat, ugly people that want models to become fat and ugly too. Do you ever notice a hot skinny chick always compliments another hot chick? When a fat girl sees a skinny girl she immediately says ohh she has no meat on her bones, no ***, blah blah... If everyone is fat then all the fat chicks are normal again and desired. Ask an ugly chick to pick a girl out of a magazine that is appealing to her and she will always pick the fattest ugliest one to make her self more apealling... its all jealousy, etc

The main concern is how teenage girls try to emulate this unsexy skin and bone stuff. Eating disorders are at an all time high and the fashion industry is partially to blame. They all have pretty faces and perky breasts but uncover the rest of them and it reminds me of holocost victims.
