If this reaction is not complete, a mixture of myristic acid and unhydrolyze trimyristin will be obtained after acidification. Suggest a method by which both myristic acid and trimyristin can be separated from this mixture. Suggest two methods which will indicate that both myristic acid and trimyristin are present in the mixture.

Add NaOH to the water mixture of myristic acid and partially hydrolyzed myristic esters (they are not all trimyristin!). Add diethyl ether, shake, and partition the layers in a separtatory funnel. The sodium myristate will be in the bottom water layer. The ether solution of partially hydrolyzed trimyristins will be on the top. You've got a real problem in the second part, because in addition to trimyristin, you will have glyceryl dimyristate and glyceryl myristate.
