...and how do you plan on reaching them? I read that if your goals are written down and you have a plan, you will be more successful at achieving them. Has anyone had this experience with a written financial plan or goals in general?

Well, most people, hopefully, want to be financially independent. Writing your goals is an excellent strategy. There are many biblical principles that mention this as well as many "gurus" who say the same thing. This is one of the suggestions we mention to our new business partners as they join our organization. What it does is keep you focused and provide you with a road map. Think of it as driving to a destination you have never been to. Without a map, you may reach your destination through trial and error, but you will reach your destination much quicker if you have directions :-)

Best wishes...

In many ways for most people, it can be helpful to write down financial goals (and other goals, too!) and periodically compare them with results.
There can be certain ironies.
Sometimes, despite one's best efforts, commitment, and discipline, goals will not be achieved. There can be overriding circumstances that are beyond control, or simply timing factors.
Sometimes, financial benefit can occur without making much/any effort, e.g.,due to changes in tax laws.
Sometimes, goals, believe it or not, could be limiting. If a goal is achieved, does a person stop doing something? If a goal is reached, but a person is on a roll, it could possibly make sense to continue!

My ultimate goal is to achieve financial freedom by my age of 40. Yes, I had experience with written financial goal. What is important about setting goals is to review them once a while and reset your financial goals with necessary. For example, i review my financial goals once a month to make sure I'm on track. Another important element for setting goals is the goals that you set must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and reasonable time schedule.
