sounds like a risk for you to try but...you gotta do it a little at a time and always use sunscreen. put on some 15, go lay out for a half hour and then come in and evaluate the progress. just be veey careful! im sure you know all the bad stuff too much sun can do!
ps- i know you said no fake stuff, but jergens and products like it help me thru a pasty-skinned winter!

no suntan oil or lotion. put regular lotion on after a shower to moisturize skin.

outside 5 minutes
inside 5 minutes
3 times
outside 10 minutes
inside 10 minutes
3 times
outside 15 minutes
inside 15 minutes
3 times

keep going, adding 5 minutes each time and doing it 3 times each. no burn and a tan that LASTS.

my mom has the same skin and hair. she did it when she was young (teenager) because someone (american indian) told her about it. she used to burn after being outside in the sun for any time over 30 minutes. she hasn't had a burn since she did this over 60 years ago! she's 75 and has had no skin cancer.

With red hair and freckles...that type is not known to tan much at all. You can try all summer and it may hardly do anything other then burn. To save yourself the trouble and the health dangers of the sun and tanning beds, your best bet IS a (good) fake tanner.

whatever u think is fine, but usually fair skinned ppl just don't look that great w/ a tan. from ur description, u would look better w/out 1. but go for it if u want 2! no one's stopping u!

Hmm, Mix your tanning lotion with sunblock, and instead of laying out for however long your darker skinned friends do, sometimes thats 30 mins, sometimes its an hour.....cut that time in half until you start to gain a darker skin tone.

purple hair seems quite good with a easy complexion. yet once you rather need to die your hair merely attempt maybe a brunette sorta shade. yet you may get an extremely good opinion from a hairsalon, merely bypass in there and ask them then opt for.

truth is u cant. if u try you'll end up with dry, cracked, crusty, and flaky skin. not to mention BAD sunburn. it'll look sooo not attractive. just accept your skin and use a good moisturizer.
