I am against dog fighting and I would never do it. But how can a pitbull defeat such a big powerful dog that was bred to hunt bears?

Not likely a pit would hurt an akita. I have seen akita's go at it to the point their owners were hurt. Never have I seen a pit defy its owner.

The answer would be the same for the question "how can an Akita hunt such a big powerful bear?" It's not size and weight, it's ferocity.

You have to believe if the Pit gets the Akita's neck it ain't letting go! Ever watch that show on Nat'l Geo. I think its called Predators they animate different animals fighting each other, like a bear vs. a saber tooth! I wouldn't want to watch the real "fight" of theses two Gladiators, against it 100% BUT, lets see them animated it....

Pit bulls were bred to hunt large game like bears and boars and bulls as well. Even Staffies were used for lion baiting because they were so good at avoiding the claws and going straight for the face.

as for pit bull vs Akita, I think the winner depends on the individual dogs as opposed to the breed as a whole. A number of breeds fall into the category of "pit bull" anyhow...

It likely depends on who gets in the first bite. I would spend the time tho, making sure that my dog wasn't getting into fights tho, rather than daydreaming about who would win a fight.
