I find it offensive and irritating. Mainly because I do not understand the criteria and it is in blazing orange.

I don't pay attention to points or try to save or make them. I participate for the sake of participating.

Nope not jealous. Just don't like the label. Maybe if it were just less blatant.

It just showed up one day.

They don't ask if we want one in advance.

However, if I were going to fight something, it would be to get back the thumbs up and thumbs down for a question instead of the idiot stars.

I figure, some day I'll wake up and the orange banner will be gone, anyhow.

Just another annoying brownie point for people with nothing better to do than spend their entire day here...

"A Top Contributor is a member of the Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a particular category. Each Answers user can be a top contributor in up to three categories.

"The top contributor badge is dynamic —you earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a particular category. The more actively you contribute, the more likely you will earn a badge. Just like featured users or category leaders, it's another way to feature community members who might otherwise be overlooked."

The tag basically means that someone answers questions in the category a lot. Before the tags, people answered every question (I've seen a lot with "I don't know") just to get points for answering, and now the same people are going to be doing the same thing in hopes of meeting even more different achivement criteria.

A Top Contributor is someone in the Answers community who, through their participation on Answers, has shown that they are knowledgeable in a particular category. If you go to the Yahoo Answers Home page, and search out these things that confuse, offend or irritate you, you may learn something that will help you to understand them, and eliminate the confusion, offense and irritation. Save yourself the five points this question cost you, too.

Ignore it if it bothers you. The term simply means some of us are bigger blabber mouths than others (notice I am one). We simply have reached some level YA has set that "rewards" us for contributing most often to the questions, answers, and votes contained in this board.

It only amazes me because some of those labeled "Top Contributor" are extremely offensive and rude. Im surprised Y!A awarded that. Well, I guess they're only offensive and rude to republicans. That might explain it.

jealous? dont let them call you jealous because they are actually jealous of you because you have a life and by the looks of their "top contributor" status they dont.
