I am really nervous about getting the surgery, but I'm hoping I'll be happier afterwords. My joints are grinding together and there is no fluid left in my left jaw joint :( Is moving my jaw back going to give me a double chin?

Yes, there will be if they have to do cutting on the outside of your face. But you can get some creams to help the scarring-you can find different ones in pharmacy stores-they are used for scars, stretch marks, blotches, etc.

I don't know...but if you had had braces when you were younger that would likely have been corrected.

If you have that jaw popping thing going on when you're little get it fixed. This is what it leads to uncorrected!

Good luck. I'm sure they will cut in such a manner that they do when they do face lifts, around the hairline ear area.

No scaring on the outside. The surgery is done from the inside of the mouth. If they are doing a bilateral advancement or reduction you will have stiches (sutures) on the inside that will heal without much scaring. Good luck.

My cousin had surgery on his lower jaw. He had no scarring except for a very small mark near his ear. As long as it is a good doctor, there should be no or minimal scarring

There will be some scarring, but the surgeons will do their best to ensure that any scars are as small and hidden as they possibly can be. Don't worry, if there are any, they will fade in time and the surgery will benefit you.
