Love You Forever and The Velveteen Rabbit are the culprits in my house. My kids won't even let me read them anymore. We just bought a new copy of Love You Forever for the baby boy on the way and my fiance read it and started crying himself.

As for A Child Called It, I think thats a very good book and I hope my children read it when they get older, I hope they read all of his books. While they may not be groundbreaking literature, they can definitely teach a person something.

Yep, Love You Forever, it made me cry before I ever had a child. And also a book called A STORY OF THREE TREES. It's about 3 trees who aspire to noble purposes only to be chopped down. The hearts of the trees are disappointed because of the way they end up, one becomes an animal trough. But then one day a baby is born and he becomes that baby's crib, and that baby is of course Jesus. It's a beautiful story, the second tree becomes the boat that Jesus rode on, and the third becomes the cross He is crucified on. I choke up every time I read that story to my daughter.

After seeing all of the great reviews for "Love You Forever" I decided I would check it out on Amazon and find if the literature was on the web. It was and I cried. It seems like an excellent book!
A book that has always made me cry [as silly as it is] is "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. Of course I want my son to grow up but it's kind of sad when you think about it more at the same time making me realize how precious they really are.

The Giving Tree and Charlotte's Webb every time!
EDIT: Well, I have to comment on Jillmarie's post. I have never been that big of a fan of Love You Forever. In my opinion it's a little on the co-dependent side, but I have never thought there was anything sexual about it. I do believe that you may have some issues hon that you need to deal with. I absolutely love Robert Munsch's other books, they are funny and very very silly. My daughter and I laugh whenever we read More Pies!

I also enjoyed Love You Forever. To Jillmarie, the poster who tried say the story implies it is about intergenerational sex, you are sick.Your judgement appears to be clouded from too many years in a stressful field.Take off your blinders. Learn to read. The story is quite simply the circle of love between a small boy and his mother. The story explains how the mother was the caregiver to the child.Over time ,the boy (now a man) lovingly takes on the role of caregiver for his elderly mother. So in your so called professional opinion what story moves you. I notice you never answered the question?

Great question! I get choked up when I read Welcome Comfort, Pink and Say, The Christmas Tapestry and The Keeping Quilt (all by Patricia Polacco). I also get choked up when I read Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express, Dr. Seuss's The Lorax, and The Faithful Elephants by Yukio Tsuchiya.

Love you Forever deffinately makes me cry... and I haven't even had to read it to my daughter yet because she is only 9 months old. And "The Giving Tree". It's so sad. I feel so bad for the tree lol. But I really sit there and ball my eyes out. I can just imagine the day I read those to her and she says "Mommy, what's wrong???" lol

Love you forever - I've cried just thinking about that book. I'm feeling a little emotional right now (lol).
I disagree with jillmarie to, I don't see anything sexual about that story. you just might be one social worker who is looking a little to hard into something that is not there. Tell me where it shows anything sexual in the lines...."I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be"...
