I have had them several times mostly by accident. Druggin and drinkin for years at a time made me simply to forgetful to wash my hair. But I am older and more sedentary and wash my hair regularly now. Is there a chemical method or something to get dreads quickly?

Yay!!! Another dreadhead!! Have been a proud dreadhead for 2 years... I used the backcoming and beeswax method. However, in Australia you can go to african hair salons and they can do dreads which entails a perming solution.. I have also known people to apply the perming solution to their hair after they have back combed it...

I have dead straight hair, so mine are very high maintainance (arghh!), I love them though and wouldn't go back to normal hair. I spray salt water on my hair on a regular basis, this dries my hair out and tightens my dreads...

There is a web site called dreadheadz.com it gives great pointers for those who dread their own hair...

Good luck dude!

You can do something called backcombing. It is less expensive than chemical. But that really depends on the hair you have. It has to be very long also as you lose half of the length of long hair converting them to dreads.

The backcombing method worls really well, just look it up on internet. It takes about 2-3 hours for a person to get his hair done this way. I later suggest adding some special dread wax. However do not listen to people who tell you not to wash your hair and stick gum in it, that is quite disgusting and the old school, only root boys from jamaica get away with it. You can have nice, clean thin dreads and they go real well with a suit if you attach them, just like the guy in Matrix.

Andyways good luck, dreads rule!

Sorry but the answer is no. Dreads are made from all that grease and dirt and sweat that comes more or less naturally without bathing to the point where the locks of your hair become physically bonded together. Think of it as kind of "bed head" or "hat hair" but to the extreme. Pretty much the same principle applies there. So, in short, to get dreads quickly, go roll your hair around in some mud and DON'T wash it OR shave your head and buy a dread wig.

Using vinegar on your hair regularly (screws it up) makes Caucasian hair to go into dreads.
