2- Will AOL change my ISP without my knowledge(like they have in the past)?
3- Do I have to complete at least one of those silly offers before it lets me download it?

5-If you had to compare it with either yahoo messenger or windows messenger, which one is it most like?

Lots of good questions.... Make sure you download it from their web site http://www.aim.com/.

1. No, you dont have to be an AOL member

2. AIM will not change your ISP

3. No offers required

4. IMO all three big IM clients are pretty similar in ease-of-use

5. I think it really depends on what features you are interested in / using. I like Y! IM because it is connected to my Yahoo! address book and music connections and also has a Mac Client, but again I don't think there is a huge difference in the different UIs.

6. Re: downloading it, it really depends on who you want to connect with. If you have friends on MSN, either Yahoo! or MSN are probably more appropriate since those two programs can now communicate with each other. However, if you have a lot of friends on AOL, it is definitely worth installing.

No, they should not change your ISP..
I forgot about the silly offers, it has been so long ago..
Yes, It is very close to yahoo! messenger..
I don't have windows messenger, so I cannot compare..
Yes, download it if you want it, you will like it..

6) No, download trillian. That way you can talk to people on aim, yahoo, and msn using one free program that won't mess up your computer.

there's no harm AIM does to your computer, and i highly recommend it to stay in touch with friends and family.
