I'm moving in to an apartment in the Boston area and we are looking for an inexpensive cable and internet provider. Am I correct in assuming you can't get DSL unless you have an active land line phone? We wouldn't be putting a land line in because we all have cell phones. Any and all help is much appreciated.

Yes you need a land line phone for DSL. Although they advertise DSL for only like $20 per month, a land line will cost another $20, so its not that cheap!and doesnt include tv! I use Comcast (not sure if they are available in Boston, i'm in Fall River, MA) They have a basic package for like $70 for TV and Internet, honestly i think that's the cheapest combo you could get.

Yes, you are correct, you need to have a land line for DSL connection. Going with DSL will probably cost you a lot more.

If you want cable internet, which is much faster than DSL, the choices are very limited. Actually most of the time, the choice is not yours. You need to check which internet service provider is servicing your area. And you pretty much have to go through that company. But I would try with Road Runner first; They have $29.95 for the first six months with free installation and no contract.

Ek se!

I only use a DSL connection at home. I use my cell phone as a modem (its expensive) 'BUT' thanx to providers such as Virgin Mobile it is cheaper...

If you have Virgin Mobile in you country, simply get the sim or you can alternativelly buy data bundles with your current provider. You don't have to apply for any cables, its a dial-up with a convinient speed depending on the country's network type.

I think a cell phone is the best option since you'll not be living at your own house..

Satellite and DSL require land lines.
Leaving cable - as to "cheep". . .
Once you have cable check out Yahoo's services: pc to pc, pc out & in it could cut down on cell minutes.
