There are subtle difference between a Dualshock (PS1) and Dualshock 2 (PS2) controller. This being that the Dualshock 2 controller has pressure sensitive buttons (X, square, triangle, circle) which have no effect on PS1 games whatsoever. So yes, you can play your Dualshock 2 controller on a PS1.

Just don't try to use a Dualshock (PS1) controller with a PS2 game, as the pressure sensitive buttons are not there, and half the time it wont work.

yes....sony has never changed his control in all of their consoles.
