better check for a spyware or malware in your system... it may have altered your browser. i would also recommend to do a full anti-virus system scan.

if your system is clean, then why not try to re-install firefox or upgrade to a new version if you're still on the old one.

when you open options look at the top of the box you'll see "main" "tabs" "content" ect click on Main then you'll see restore to defaults
