The best possible shampoos are, unfortunately, the expensive ones: Phytologie and Frederic Fekkai.
However, if you're on a budget, the best tip is to go for the simplest possible formula with the least ingredients. A lot of mid-level high street hair products - Pantene, Herbal Essences, Sunsilk, Elvive, for instance - contain silicones and other ingredients that will make your hair look lovely and smooth in the short term, but may create build-up and lead to your hair looking dull and greasy in the long term.
I know it seems surprising, but you're generally better off with a very basic option - a supermarket own brand, or Simple, or Johnsons, or other baby shampoo - rather than a big brand name. If you can afford to splash out a bit more, try something like Origins or Aveda.

The absolute best is the new brand which just came out called Organix. It has organic active ingredients and is sulfate free so it wont dry out your hair, plus it smells absolutely awesome! Organix has different collections for different hair types which are all amazing, and Organix is not expensive.
Check it out!

I have found that Sunsilk is realy, realy great. You can also select what type of hair that you have. It's like 4.00 a bottle. But if you want to go even cheaper, go with Sauve, for the color of hair that you have. It's great!!!

You might try some natural products for shampoo. Actually, one of the best hair and scalp cleaners is baking soda.

Hairapy is great. You can get the specific type for your hair. And Panteene is great for hair color.
