This is the first time my son is sick. He's 12 months and has diarhea. I've called his peditrican and they tell me they don't see children for this unless they've had it for more than two weeks. It's only been four days for us.
I'm following their instructions with pedialyte every 1-2 hours, at least two servings of yogurt, and starchy foods. But, I've seen no improvement. In fact, this morning no wet diapers yet we had a nasty diarhea diaper (one time so far).
He's clumsy, very pale, and won't eat anything except the pedialyte and yogurt. I'm most concerned about the lack of wet diapers. He slept for 12 hours and his diaper looked like he had one pee the whole time. That was at 7:30. From 7:30 until now he has had no pee (two hours). I did the skin test and it took a few seconds to get back to normal color.
It seems like he's loosing the pedialyte with each diaper. Is this normal? I just dont' know...
(Please no mean comments. I am a new mommy!!)

Yeah, you need to tell the Dr's office that he isn't having wet diapers, just diarrhea. Also, up the pedialyte to every 30 min. Is he drinking a lot at a time or just sipping? Really push the fluids as much as you can until you can get him in somewhere. Also, you can put him on BRAT(bananas, rice, applesauce and toast)diet and that helps stop the diarrhea..especially the applesauce and toast part. If the Dr. still won't see you after knowing about the wet diaper situation, then take him to an urgent care or ER and if he is dehydrated, then it's time to switch physicians. Good luck!

Well if he is not having any wet diapers you need to tell the dr that and if the dr doesnt listen take him to the hospital. Only because he could be dehydrated and that can be very dangerous for a infant.
They say that with the pedialyte and only either vomiting or diarrhea he should be fine but with both it is serious.
So if he only has diarrhea maybe he ate something or just has the flu bug.
I would be watching for the wet diapers...if he doesn't have one in another two hours call the dr ASAP.
If the dr wont see him so to the hospital.

It sounds like you are doing everything right. If you are concerned about him getting dehydrated I would call the doctors office and ask them if you can bring him back in to get check out and they shouldn't turn you down. If they do I would first change doctors and second bring him to the emergency room cause you don't want him to get dehydrated. He may be a little dehydrated and when you give him pedialyte his body may be absorbing it and that is why he hasn't really had any wet diapers, but as long as he is taking in some fluids he shouldn't be dehydrated.

I've never heard a dr say that they won't see a baby unless they've been sick for 2 wks. Or an adult for that matter. I'd find a new doctor. In the meantime take him to one of the urgent care places if there's one near you (like a Nighttime Pediatrics, Patient First type place), or the ER if there's no other option.
Also, whenever my son has had diarrhea, the dr always told us to stay away from any dairy. They also had us use soy formula, specifically Isomil DF (or maybe DS, I can't remember) which is specifically made for diarrhea.
But either way, change doctors!

Take him in ASAP trust your instincts you know your baby best! A few months ago my daughter was sick I knew something was wrong but when I took her in they told me she was just a little dehydrated and I should take her home and give her Pedialyte well I knew it was something else and I insisted that they admit her turns out she had congestive heart failure she almost died we ended up being life flighted to Children's Hospital in Dallas 13 hours later if I had taken her home she would have died.

honestly i am a first time mommy too with a 10 month old. and i would take the baby to the ER or a minor emergency clinic. just to make sure the baby is seen and to get some peace of mind. keep in mind too that the receptionist doesn't know what is going on with your little one. if you call his pediatrician, ask to speak with a nurse. but if you are really that concerned, take him in and they can check his electrolytes and get him re-hydrated. good luck.

I would DEMAND that the doctor see him, or you may consider going to a different doctor if your insurance allows for that. He sounds very sick and may need IV fluids. Take him to the ER if you can't get anywhere with your doctor. Trust your instincts as a mommy and good luck!!

Hello new mummy, i would ring the doctor back. He is advising you on the diarrhoea but he needs to know that there are other symptoms too. Your baby seems dehydrated so call back and tell him everything else you have said on here. Good luck x

Go to the doctors or change your doctors. I never heard of a doctor make you wait for two weeks. Make you own Popsicle for the baby to take and give it to him often. You can use koolaid but diluted. Try bananas, rice or applesauce. But please go to the doctors, if you have anything else please contact me.
