I have always suffered with high levels of stress but now I am pregnant, I am very concerned about the effects stress could have on my baby. I am particularly stressed at the moemnt because of a few different things but I am trying so hard to stop now I am pregnant. Can this lead to miscarriage or other problems at all?

This is one of those horrible situations where you end up stressing about being stressed.
I was there with my first pregnancy due to domestic abuse and spent my time worrying about it's effects upon her. She was born 8 lb 5 oz.
Determined to avoid it with my second pregnancy ( lovely man, not a wife beater! ) but environmental factors and lack of sleep due to rib pain have lead to me being extremely stressed. I'm not worrying as much this time, but I am constantly reassuring and stroking my bump and focussing on the positives.
My best friend also had an extremely traumatic pregnancy last year due to health issues. her wee boy is sweet, good natured and sleeps like an angel.
Try not to listen too much to scare stories, stress is relative and it's effects on your baby are hard to determine from person to person.
Try not to worry and look forward to your baby coming. Don't punish yourself!
Take care xx

Stress is not good for you. It leads to high blood pressure, which isn't good for the baby.
When I was 8 weeks pregnant I saw a guy get run over-mega stress/shock. I just tried to keep calm. and stress free. All was ok. Weeks 30-38 I was revising for my Open Univeristy exams, I had family drama's and I was working full time in a stressful job. The advice the midwife gave me was to try to remove any of the stress I could. You could try the same. I told the family members not to involve me in the drama, I cancelled some commitments I had, so I could just stay home and chill, I also used some holiday from work.
Is there anything you can do to reduce the stress?

Just ry to remain calm about things. Yes they do say stress can effect the baby but there are very few people who sail through a pregnancy with nothing to worry about.

I had to buy my first home, move, decorate and pass my driving test and deal with an idiot of a boss at work so it certinly wasn't the most relaxing period of my life and I have a perfect baby.

Yes. Stress can cause a lot of problems, so just relax as much as you can. It's hard to enjoy the pregnancy when you're stressing all the time. Try talking to people about how you feel and maybe it will help ease your mind. Enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can, and enjoy your baby while he/she is still young. Before you know it, your baby will be starting school. So enjoy every bit of it!

Congrats!!

It is true that stress can lead to miscarriage but only severe ongoing stress that really affects your blood pressure. I would visit the doctors and do some light exercise maybe yoga or swimming to help. Good luck

Im high risk, so the Dr. Always tells me "NO STRESS" Whatever he must be in a fantasy world. I have a 15 yr old and 6 yr old and an ex husband, and a demanding job..... so thats all stressful... lol

But do your best to just go with the flow, dont get upset over stuff you cant fix...... and what you can dont try to fix it all at once.

Sounds like your stressing over stress. Just stop thinking about it and think about other things like the name of your future baby, and all the fun things that you will teach him/her. As a childcare worker i have found that the mothers that are stressers have the most stressed out babies and are hard to calm down (the only exception is if they are like the calmer parent). The relaxed parents tend to have more relaxed and easy going babies.

Stress can affect the health of your baby.
To help lower the levels try yoga and speak to your doctor.

What helped me with stress was I read the book "Power of a Praying Woman" by Stormie Omartian. Prayer is so powerful & God's Word the Bible fills me with love, joy & peace that is unexplainable. I used to have high stress levels too until I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior. Stress is from satan. The Bible tells us he is the Father of all lies & he comes to destroy us, our marriages & children.
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal(our dreams & joy) and kill (spiritually kill us)and destroy; I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Rom 10:10-13
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him(Jesus) will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Jer 29:11-13
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
