when he is of age, leap frog has an excellent interactive notebook to learn common spanish words and phrases. but this is not til hes like 2. why dont you make it a learning experience for the both of you and learn together. dora has several sets of flashcards as well. when my nephew learned his colors, we taught him both english and spanish at the same time ("what color is your shirt?" ....blue "and in espanol?" .....azul) i think the baby einstein company makes something to learn foreign language as well. but either method you will have to quiz the child and integrate these words into conversation to make the info stick so you will have to learn as well.

Well coming from a bilingual household (french not spanish) I can say that if you use it all the time, especially when they're learning to speak they'll learn it. It's really easy to learn if it's used commonly, rather than if you try to like sit them down and teach them like a lesson. But be sure to say things in both languages so they'll get that it translates.

you didn't say how old your baby is. if your baby goes to day care or is going to check around for one that has a Spanish speaking care giver. they say that someone constantly speaking only that language is the best way to teach another child a different language.

How about you just teach him english first? Don't try and confuse the poor thing by stumbling with a language you can't even speak yourself. He is only 5 moths old, keep words simple and concise, and let him be guided by words (english) you use every day.Simple signing would be a good start

i speak spanish to my son and we're not hispanic. my daughter is so that's how I know it. I say like 10 words repeatedly. when we're in a store and he's being demanding I tell him "hold on" in spanish and he calms right down because I use that all the time. repeat the same few words. when I tell him "what do u say" when i want him to say please or thank you I say that in spanish. when we talk about eyes or nose or such, I say it in english and spanish.
