Pokemon(togepi)(game boy)(leaf green)?

Question

how come I always go to five island and talk to the man,the man don't give me a egg.And in my bag,there's only 1 pokemon that I hold,but the man still don't give me the egg .why's that?
PLEASE HELP,I REALLY WANT TOGEPI!!!

Your very top Pokemon has to like you so the trainer can supposedly know you will take good care of Togepi. I suggest using your starter Pokemon for this. If that doesn't work for some reason, try using a non-traded Pokemon that you've used for a long time.
