And how would I USE all of that equipment - could you explain the experimental set-up and method for completing the practical part of the experiment?

Calcium carbonate is basically chalk.
It can be rected with hydrochloric acid in a test tube.
Place chalk in test tube.Pour the acid into the tube to cover chalk. It will foam. It probably should be in a test tube rack.

CaCO3 + 2HCl--->CO2 + H2O +CaCl2

Science Teacher gave you a good answer. You would also need a set of safety glasses anytime you are handling an acid.
