I've been wanting to grow my hair for a while, but I've worried about neatness. Now I just don't care, and want to know how I go about getting long hair. Should I just stop getting it cut? Because then I'll look like a raga-muffin.. or should I just get a trim every now and then at the salon and tell them I want to grow it long?

Go to the salon and tell them you're trying to grow it out. Make sure to get the split ends trimmed off every 8 weeks or so. A hairdresser can reccomend shampoos etc that will help your hair grow. Also, to keep your hair from looking like a raga-muffin, try vitamin A and E and eating carrots! Or, just switch your shampoo. Pantine is pretty good for shine and managability. Aussie is pretty good too. A low cost alternative is Suave and above all else, avoid blow drying your hair, chlorine and coloring and perming!

Cutting your hair only makes it shorter. So unless you have split ends or damaged hair, the only need to cut your hair is for the look you want. If you have split ends get them trimmed to maintain heathy hair. Other things you can do to ensure that your hair follicles stay healthy and undamaged, are:

1 Take vitamins such as 'one a day' or 'flinstones' (your hair likes zinc and biotin and both of them have ample amounts)
2 Don't over brush or comb your hair. With every stroke you damage it.
3 get a good quality brush without sharp plastic or metal ridges (natural bristles are best to use)
4 Buy good quality salon products. The chemicals used in many, if not most of the over the counter shampoos and conditioners, contain very harsh ingredients such as 'ammonium laurel sulfate' which can actually dry your hair out and cause breakage and split ends. Even worse, many contain a 'bad' form of silicon, and that can be very nasty on your hair. 'Pantene' is one of the worst.
Goot luck! : )

My mom is actually a hair stylist and she told me that if you're growing your hair out you should still get a trim once every 4 to 8 weeks roughly. you should also inform your hair stylist that you plan on growing it out so she should just take off as little as possible. The trim is just going to make sure that your hair is all the same length and it's getting rid of the dead ends which will make your hair look a lot healthier :)

I have been using shampoo and conditioner called hair+. It has worked wonders.(Believe me, I was so desperate I measured my hair weekly.) My hair has grown three inches in a month and a half that is way faster than normal. This is just one of the websites that sells it: http://www.verseo.com/shampoo.html One warning though the conditioner doesn't feel that great and your hair has a weird limpness to it after using. You can hide it by wearing it up and since you only use the shampoo and conditioner once a week you can use your favorite the rest of the time.

the best way to get your hair to grow faster and more healthier is to have it trimmed about every 3 months, it keeps the hair from breaking and splitting on the ends and conditon it after shampooing

for hair to grow faster you have to trim it once in a while
but since most hairdressers like to cut more than you tell them too make sure you tell your hairdresser that you'r planning to grow it out and that you only want a trim

dont stop cutting it. jsut get about a centimeter off every 2 months. that way it'll get rid of split ends to make your hair grow even faster that it would've if you didnt cut it.
