Well... Hair straightening pretty much damages your hair too. I sometimes have a similar problem with frizzy hair but wavy hair is really in at the moment and thick hair is amazing, you could put some serum on it to calm down the fly-aways but don't over-straighten it - that will look really bad and unhealthy.
If you really want to straighten your hair, you could always have it Japanese straightened and yes, it does damage your hair but in the long-run probably not half as much if you straightened it with irons daily.
Good luck!

I have been getting my hair chemically straightened for about four years. While I'm not African American, my hair was VERY curly and this product worked wonders. My stylist uses a Redkin straightener, and the process takes around three hours and costs about $100, but I think it is worth it. You only have to do it every 6 months, and depending on how curly your hair is, you might still have to run over it with a flat iron (I do). I wash my hair, apply smoothing serum, occasionally blow dry, and always flat iron. No one ever suspects my real texture.

I feel you girl! I have ethnic hair, its the puerto rican blood, but my hair is just like that. I use to blowdry it and it would fry my hair and my hair would still be a lil poofy. honestly, the chi flat iron works great, you can order one online and they have all different kinds. you can go there and read and see which one you like. also when you use the flatiron make sure you use a hair serum before you straighten your hair. you can also use some hair polisher, you put it on after your all done and it makes your hair look real shiny. it works for me and I have frizzy hair so I hope this helps.

blow dry with a paddle brush and use a CHI flat iron. you can also use a straightening serum before you dry your hair or after you straighten it.. helps with the flyaways.
and NEVER use a flat iron when your hair is wet.. it damages it.

There are products on the market for straightening hair. You can even use a perm and instead of putting the hair on rollers, you comb through it and pull it straight. Ask a good cosmetologist for recommendations.

CHI flat iron and when blow drying your hair, use a straightening product as well, I would suggest a paddle brush for starts. Also use SILK THERAPY SHINING SOLUTION WHEN STRAIGHTENING WITH THE CHI!!!!!!!!!!! Works great for me in the salon!!
