I am wondering how to frost a cake without tearing the cake up! Do I let the cake cool out of the pan? Please help me.

thanks so much

Definitely let the cake cool first out of the pan. Put it on what ever base you are using, ie a platter, plate or cardboard base. As for the icing, two things will really help - heat your icing up for about 15 seconds, or until easily stirred - and use a spatula to do your icing and work only in one direction around the base first, from bottom to top, and then the top of the cake...use lots of icing, and Good Luck!

hello,
Yes cool the cake place it on a cake board or serving dish
trim the top to make it even and then turn it over because the bottom should already be flat
make sure that the icing is not stiff
use a cake wheel or if you do not have one a lazy susan that turns is also good
put extra icing in center and work towards the edge and let it hang over. You then can use this to catch the icing on to the sides as you turn the cake work the icing
you then can take off the extra icing with the spatula. you can use a flat or offset spatula

Let your cake cool and make sure it isnt warm when you put on the frosting. Also make sure that the frosting isnt cold. If you keep your frosting in your fridge let it sit out a bit. Dont microwave the frosting though because if it is in too long it gets melty

The best way is to freeze the layers before you ice them. frosting should be room temperature. Take the frozen layers out, drag a knife across the tops of the layers to even the cake, put these sides down using frosting to "attach" them. Then frost using a thin layer of icing first to seal in the crumbs, then build on another round of icing to make it look nice.
