Here's a couple of websites for you to check before you decide you are $2900 richer.
It's a scam. You might want to turn it over to your state Attorney Generals Office fraud/scam team.

Wow....I thought this kind of stuff only happened on TV.
About a week ago I receive a check in the mail for $2600.
The letter said I won the Western Canada lottery for $120,000.
Boy was I excited. I usually get those emails but I have never had any one send me a check.
I called the 1 800 number and was instructed to cash the check on my checking account and call them back. They would then instruct me on how to get my certified check in the mail for $120,000 by UPS , within 24 hours.
Boy I am rich and debt free.
I called my husband and my mother. I was so nervous. I thought I won.
Once the excitement wore off I decided to start doing some investigation. I looked up the Western Canada Lottery. I learned a lot from this website.
I was suppose to take this check to my bank, cash it, and send it to someone.....this check was for my taxes only.
On the WCLC.com website it states you never pay taxes on lottery winnings.
HUM....................................
I took a look at the check. It was from State Farm Insurance and it was drawn on a US Bank.
I called the State Farm number and told the agent about the check I received. He immediately placed me on hold and hung up on me. I called back but kept getting his voice mail.
My husband called US Bank to check the funds of the check. It was a bogus account number.
I called the 1 800 number and told them my bank said the check was no good. The girl hesitantly put me on hold and eventually also hung up on me.
So for about 20 minutes I was $120,000 richer. Mentally I made so many good investment plans with that money. I could have helped my parents, my niece and my brother. I could have put a nice deposit on a new home.
How disappointing.
I still have the check on my dresser.
I wish there was something I could do about scams like this. It is wrong to raise people's hopes and play with their lives like that.
I just wish I could see these idiots and shake the hell out of them.
You know the funny thing about all of this.....the state farm agency was a real agency. So he was in on the scam too!
Curse him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you dont know the person who sent it to you then no.
most scams start with sending you a check telling you to deposit
it and then send them money for taxes etc. by the time your
bank informs you the check if fraud you have probly spent the money and sent them money you wont be getting back in return.
