it all depends on where you're at and what you're doing. you can make anywhere from 15,000 to 175,000 and even more. there's a few ways that stylist bring money in. they can work for a chain salon (cost cutters, smart styles, etc.) where they usually get hourly plus commission. so they usually start at about $9 and hour and make more depending on how many customers they get in a day. they also make a percentage off the retail that they sell (usually 5-8%). stylists can also worked just based on commission. for example, i worked at a salon where i made 50% of whatever i did. so if i did a $120 color, i got $60 before taxes. otherwise stylist can do booth rent which is great for stylists with a large loyal clientele. you pay a rental fee for your station at a salon, and you keep all your earnings. it's basically like owning your own business because you have to do your taxes, and all of that wonderfuls stuff

it depends on where u live- you can make decent $$$ in the bigger cities- however, if you are not in a big city then i would check into a higher end salon.
