I just bought a 92 S10 blazer (4.3L, V6, Vortec) and I was wondering if they are any good at off roading since they are 4x4. My dad says that the aren't and a friend of mine says that if I try to go off roading it might get stuck. Do they know what they are talking about?

First off the coil does not need 50,000 volts, that is the output (not that much really) it only needs 12 volts. The light dimming would be when the RPM go down enough the alternator is no longer supplying electricity and the lights are being powered by the battery. Don't worry about the alternator it is not your problem. You may need to clean the throttle body, check the butter fly to see if they are dirty the other thing that comes to mind is that you have a vacuum leak. At idle spray a little carb cleaner around the hoses and see if the engine races up, that would be a leak in that area.

I think your dad and your buddy are referring to total ground clearance. Since it has torsion bars in running aft and the bottom A frames are quite close to the ground, wheel / tire diameter is on the smallish side the undercarriage will do a fair amount of scraping. There's no steel plate from the bottom of the lower cross frame to the front bumper. It's a piece of plastic which covers the optional oil cooler and oil filter. You may beat these things to pieces.

Without modifying the suspension (Lift kit, shocks, etc) this vehicle is not suitable for extreem offroad driving.
Ask anyone who goes offroading alot,,and they will tell you that its very expensive,,because things have a tendency to break, even when xtreem mods are done.
