Cl2 is both the substance oxidized and the oxidizing agent. This particular bifurcation of ocxidation states of the same element is called disproportionation.

Cl2 is both oxidised and reduced (hence the reducing agent). This is called disproportionation. The oxidation state of Cl2 is show below:

0 ----> -1 + +1
