You get a displacement reaction occurring, with the zinc replacing the copper in the solution. You will see a formation of a brown metal of copper and the solution will turn colorless due to the reaction

Zn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) -------------> ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)

When zinc is added to copper sulphate ,zinc displaces copper from copper sulphate since it is a higher reactive metal than copper according to the Reactivity Series.When zinc reacts with copper sulphate , the blue colour solution of the copper sulphate fades and colourless zinc sulphate solution is formed andthe reddish coloured copper particles settle downat thebottom of the zinc sulphate solution.Hence , zinc sulphate and copper are formed as products.
CuSo4 + Zn ------- > ZnSo4 + Cu

The colour of the solution disappears slowly. Why ?
The standard electrode potential (E0 ) series which is based on comparison with respect to standard electrode potential of hydrogen taken as zero. the E0 > E0 H will be said to be electropossitive elements (highest is Li 3.06 v and lowest i just forget this time). E0Zn > E0Cu . When any metal is dipped in water its ions will pass into the water till equilibrium established with metal M ----->M+n . If more electropossitive metal (Here Zn) is dipped in the solution of less electropositive metal (Here Cu) solution of its salt then the less electropossitive metal gets precipitated (Here Cu)

The chemical reaction will be as :
Zn + CuSO4 --------> ZnSO4 + Cu (ppt)
