they were probably braxton hicks. which are practice contractions.sometimes they hurt sometimes they dont. the way to know if they are "rEAL" contractions, lay down when you're having them or try to switch position, if it feels better or goes away a little , they are braxton hicks, real contractions wont let up for anything and will get more intense ! good luck !

He could have just shifted position too...that may be the cause of the pain and then the relief...

In my experience...Braxton Hicks was a friggin walk in the park compared to actual labor...and there was no confusing the two once my actual labor started.

If you were in actual labor... you wouldn't be able to walk to the bathroom let alone take a shower...lol

It sounds like you're getting close, but I can assure you, there will be no mistaking it once the actual contractions start.

All labour is real labour, and it is perfectly normal in early labour for labour to stop. It's much easier on you and the baby to have long rests in between periods of labour.

So don't feel like it was "false" labour, or pointless labour. It was preparing your uterus, possibly moving your baby to a better position, probably dilating you further. It may make things go faster at the end.

However next time you are getting contractions drinking a large glass of water and laying down for half an hour is a good idea. Dehydration and stress can cause contractions, which can just make you miserable.

oh you poor dear you are having back labor. I had it with both mine. If you have a burst of energy and need to get things done is very close. I think you are close anyway. Since things seem to be moving slow the more you keep going the better. If you go to the hospital they make you walk anyway. depending on your hospital. but you don't want to go a day early. you doctor can check you in her or his office. I hot shower should bring on labor not take it away. so keep trying the shower trick. Hopefully your water will break so that you can know that it is time. and it doesn't have to be broken at the hospital.

Real labor will be consistant. It won't stop when you get up and walk around...they will stay consistantly spaced for awhile....lets say you have contractions every ten mintues for an hour and even getting up and moving doesn't make them stop, then it's more than likely real labor.

Keep your eye out for bloody show. The pressure you feel on your pelvic area simply indicates that your baby's head has dropped and labor is eminent, you'll know when it really hits....just keep walking (i know it hurts...but it helps)

I was always told that you will KNOW what it is *real* labor. It is SO true! Sounds like you are close, but not quite there. Braxton Hicks can be a very painful tightening but real labor is like very bad menstrual cramps. good luck!

Does sound like labor is coming on. If you are every concerned, call your Dr. or go to the hospital. They dont care how many times you go in, your health and baby are the main concern.
