1. Clear companies willing to sponsor migrant workers and make the companies responsible for registering, finger printing, and doing background checks under a work visa.
2. Tax the individuals at a high rate to offset school and hospital overruns (and maybe pad social security too).
3. Give them 10 years to have a perfect record (no tickets, infractions - none).
4. After 10 years with no problem, let them apply for citizenship and make certain they are employed, have no record, speak English, pay taxes, and obey the law.
Anyone who gets in the program but can't hold a job or breaks the law we now have finger prints and other information to help trace and deport them.
We would create a tremendous additional tax base to offset the existing tremendous tax burden the current system (or lack of) has created.
It would be difficult to debate at that time that hardworking people that make it through the 10 years would deserve to stay.

Add one more thing. Force the employers to be totally responsible for all medical and dental care of the worker and his/her family.

Currently many companies knowingly hire workers who are not here legally or authorized to work and you want to put the responsibility in their hands? That makes no sense to me. The simple solution is to enforce the immigration laws already in place. Why do people want to excuse illegal aliens? There are thousands of people who immigrate here LEGALLY so it isn't like there are no means for immigration. I doubt you would be so willing to find a solution that basically excuses other felons yet people keep whining about illegals needing a break. Who speaks for the law abiding citizens and the legal immigrants?!

Honestly the companies would not be interested in paying minimum wage if that's the case then they would be no need to hire illegals.
Most illegals are smuggled in so they can get paid below minium wage.
Plus the people who are migrating to this country legally should be in their own country before coming into America. This way all the appropiate precedures can take place in where ever they are from.
It would be a slap in the face to anyone who comes here and does everything legally to have people who were illegal living here get amensty if employers decide to hire them legally. Not only that it would encourage more illegals to come over the boarder.

Don't we already have laws on record concerning the illegal alien issue. Let's start enforcing them! Why create new laws when there's nothing wrong with what is already there. What is wrong is our government, and their lack of backbone here. If they refuse to do something about it, perhaps the people of this country will. Isn't that a frightening thought!

I fully agree with your posture in this matter. Mexicans (Illegal ones) are here to work, not to place bombs)) your suggestion would solve many many problems and create a source on income to offset the expenditure caused by the same immigrant. Hope someone can see the wisdom of your question.

You really think the taxes from a bunch of low-wage people will cover their costs? The costs will be passed off to the taxpayer, just like it is now. Only with your scheme, they get to be citizens in 10 years.
Sorry - best thing is to enforce our laws!

Ok, but why should these law breakers get it their way. This would be nothing but a slap in the face to all on those who, payed the fees, did all paperwork, and then waited, sometimes for years. We must show them and the world, that we have a right way, and a wrong way.

It all boils down to simple greed. The American government used to care about the American people; now it cares only for money and does not discriminate where the money comes from.
