The one which is oxidized is ALWAYS one of the reactants, and will be the one which has lost electrons. Said another way, in an oxidation the oxidation number of the element will become more positive.

So, Cl2 initially has an oxidation number of 0, and on the right it is -1.

Br- starts out with a -1 oxidation number and ends up with an oxidation number of 0.

So, which is oxidized?
