60 y/o male whose M.D. suggest early retirement/disability secondary to knee replacement/lower back pain

Check with social security, there is not a specific amount that you are guaranteed to get. It depends on how much is in your social security account, how many years you have contributed to it. Social security disability takes almost 6 months to get approved before payments will begin. It is going to be disability payments until you reach age 65 or 67, then social security payments will start and disability will stop. You can't collect from both. Expect the monthly amount for you to get to be around $1200 - $1400 range. And that won't include Medicare insurance payments that have to come out of it.

Sounds like maybe you need to find another line of work that will be better for your knee and back.

Find a job that you can do at home with little travel needed such as via Internet. They are jobs aplenty. Try www.monster.com
