It is the law to take a "lunch break" even if you don't each lunch. I say go home the early. Take the 30 min before quitting time.

Absolutely. Most states have a law that requires at least a 30 minute clocked out break if you are scheduled 8 hours. I know, I hate it too. I come in at 6:30 am and work till 12:00 take a 30 minute break (off the clock) and am off by 3:30 everyday. That 8 - 5 stuff is not for me.

Yes by law he has to give you an hour for every 8 hours of work, or 30 min for every 6 hours of work. You must clock out. If he does not force the issue he can run in to a situation were you can sue him later. It's the law he must give it to you, and he will in force it to keep himself and the company safe.

Yes, your boss has that right to mandate you take a lunch. The labor laws in some states actually decide this for employers.

Law says, your employer is required to give you a 30 minute break......Unpaid BTW. Your employer is either making a feeble attempt at controlling labor cost, OR covering their A## by making their employees take legally required breaks.

Yes! It seems stupid, I know, but it's to do with labor laws & insurance. They can make you take two 10-15 minute breaks for every 8 hrs you work too.

Look at it this way... It's HIS job. not yours. He can pretty much do as he pleases. AND... he can make it an unpaid lunch break. Why should he pay you for lunch?
If I were your employer, and I told you to take a lunch break, and you gave me a ration of crap... I'd fire you on the spot.
