I'm very interested in the possible existence of true matriarcial cultures and from what I've researched and what I feel to be a logical progression of history I beleive they did exist. However, according to anthropologists and archaeologist there seems to be quite a bit of skepticism despite clear indications of goddess worship and mother right in ancient cultures. I would really like to delve into this question and take in a wide variety of information from both sides to make an informed decision. Does anyone have a book they can reccomend, from either viewpoint, that I can read?

I may be getting the author's name wrong but this is a personal account of living in a purported matriarchal society: Leaving Mother Lake by Yang Erhu Namu. This book has been widely criticized though and again is an autobiographical account, not a scientific record.
