It depends on where you live and whether or not there are leash laws. I know in most major cities leash laws are in effect.

Your right to walk your dog offleash end where everyone else's property begins so unless your neighbors are all friendly dog people or you live way out in the country you should walk your dog on leash. It is also a good idea to keep your dog on leash so that it does not get out into traffic and get hit by a car or cause an accident. Dogs running loose can also be considered a nuisance by people who don't want them peeing or pooping in their yard.

It is an unsafe practice but depends on where you live. Most cities have leash laws and you can get a ticket for not having a leash. In Los Angeles it is a $35.00 ticket.

It depends on the laws in your area, Most parts of Europe yes, most of the States no. It is best to have him on a leash until you know for sure.

Probably not. Most states have leash laws that are very strict. And trust me you might not want to take the risk. Tickets ARE EXPENSIVE.

It depends. Does the leash hurt your neck?

i dont even bring a leash with me when i walk my dogs anymore. i live in the city so ive trained them to wait at all the corners so that they dont run into the street.

to do that, put them on a leash at first and make them sit at every corner. every single one. make them watch you until you say "come" and step off the curb. if your dog ever runs into the street immediatly yell at them and make them come back and put them on their back if you need to. then you can start going on walks without them on the leash (but bring it just in case) and still make them sit at the corners and watch you. eventually theyll just stop at the corners and you dont really need to make them sit anymore, but do make them watch you and wait for your command. ive trained my dog when he was about 3 and my puppy, so it will work with pretty much anyone.

technically speaking i think its illegal to walk your dog without a leash, but if theyre trained i think its fine, no one really cares.

That's a really dumb idea... considering that would increase the risk of
A) your dog getting hit by a vehicle,
B) your dog getting lost and
C) your dog being stolen or picked up by animal control

you know, i actually think that is a city-by-city law...that may be different in some states but i know in my town you're not allowd to, only because we used to have rabbid pit bulls running around a couple years back. i'd research that more according to the state and city you live in, hey you never know. one city i lived in said it was illegal to walk a pig down the main street after 4pm....
