I just had my 20 week sonogram and was told I am having a boy. When I was told this I was showed a picture of the babys toes ( well that is what the sonographer said) is it possible that she was wrong about the gender? I saw no testicals or anything that resembeled them. I am a xray tech so I kinda know some things in anatomy. LOL...Every other sign points to me having a girl. Many old wives tales and chinese gender charts. Any of you have a sonogram that was wrong? Thanks for your help.

I've heard of many questionable sonograms,...but Not at 20 weeks. I have to say I would trust a sono over an old wives tale. 20 weeks is about the best time to detect accurate gender.

I would ask for another sonogram and have them show you exactly where the genitals are and see for yourself. I am 34 wks pregnant with my third boy. My doctor finally just told me he was 100% sure he is a boy. I get an ultrasound everytime I go to the docs. I guess it more or less depends on the experience of the technician doing your scan. I have heard of some being wrong, but not often. I would not rely on the old wives tales or gender charts. They said I was having girls all three times. LOL, so not true. I would say you are having a boy, boy's are usually a lot easier to identify. Good luck and congrats!!!

Yes it is a possibility that the sonogram is wrong. You could possibly see about having another one done. Every other sign I had pointed to me having a girl this pregnancy, yet I will be having a boy yet again. I haven't had any false sono's and I do not know of anyone personally that has but I have heard of it happening.

The best way to know for sure is to have another sonogram performed in about a month. It should be a lot easier to tell the sex of the baby then.

You can't rely on old wives tales and stuff like that. I guess you will have to wait till the baby is born to find out for sure. The tech could be wrong but so can the tales. I had everyone tell me a new thing. You carry this way, you feel like this, blah blah blah. I ended up having a boy. In the end who cares. you got your self a baby.

i wouldn't go by old wives tales or gender charts at all. i never had it happen to me (knock on wood) but my sister in law was told she was having a girl but it turned out it was a boy and the same thing happened with my friend-so yes it does happen.
i was worried about that happening with both my pregnancies that i asked the dr to double check especially with this one i feel the exact same with my first and the gender is different this time (so i thought i would feel different). i had my dr schedule another ultrasound to double check then i had the tech show me exactly how she knew and circle it. so for both pregancies i had three ultrasounds total just to be sure-i know they are not acurate but i feel a little more secure.

Oh there's always a chance the tech can be wrong. A friend of mine had 2 or 3 sonos and was told each time that she was having a boy. She just recently gave birth.........to a girl. Don't worry about it. You'll know for sure when baby arrives.

If you had said that the technician said it was a girl I would agree. It is much easier to mistake a girl. A boy though, they are usually right on. I have three boys and with all of them, they spotted it early on and all three were correct, never any question. With firls I have been told that it is never for sure, but with boys, almost 99% positive. I am pregnant with twins and they think both are girls, but they told me not to go buying anything since diagnosing girls is so often wrong. Good luck with whatever gender you have.

You cannot rely on wives tales or chinese gender charts. They all said I was having a girl and I am having a boy.
The odds are that she is correct in her finding. At that stage of pregnancy the odds of the sonographer being incorrect are in the 5% range.

Every single old wives tale and gender chart told me that I was having a girl. I gave birth to a beautiful 8lb 5 oz boy!

With my first pregnancy I had 3 ultrasounds- 18 weeks, 28 weeks and 40 weeks ( breech baby) all 3 I was told I was having a boy, even had "boy parts" labeled on the ultrasound picture. Imagine my surprise when I delivered a 7lb.15 oz. baby girl!
