I've got a pc with a 512 MB RAM and an nvidia 6200 256 MB graphics card. Should I or should I not upgrade to vista? People tell me that you've got to have at least a 1GB RAM to make vista run properly. But some others tell me that this is not true. So right now, I'm mighty confused, anyone care to help?

no, xp is wayyy better, the only thing different about Vista is that is has a lot better parental controls and is expensive. also there is something changed so that it is harder to do wireless networks.

The more memory you have the better, Depending on which version you get of course. You are probably stretching it by only having 512MB of Ram though.

The real question you should ask, is 'does my PC work fine now?' - if yes, then why upgrade - there are some benefits to Vista - nicer interface, better security etc, but if you plan to buy a new PC in two years or less, it's probably worth waiting for Vista - especially as by then most of the initial bugs will be ironed out.

First, I would NOT upgrade. While it might work, your computer would probably be LAME. But the Windows Vista Home Basic version would probably work OK for you and that old computer. Just SLOW, and without many of the Vista features that you expect.

You see, the high end graphics stuff that they brag about is in the ULTIMATE version. So don't fall ****** to the hype.

You see, your NEXT computer will have Vista. Many companies are waiting until the middle of next year to upgrade, and in most cases, this will be ALL NEW computers. We should see a FLOOD of 2 and 3 year old USED computers on the market worth buying, that have Windows XP Pro already installed on it. So Windows XP is not DEAD.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Do not upgrade. Just wait until you purchase a new computer, then Vista will be included and the computer will have all of the necessary things to make it work properly. Also, I would recommend waiting until the first service pack is released next year (then most of the bugs will be worked out).

No do not do it. I bought a new computer 2 weeks ago with vista on it.......95% of my programs do not work including my printer ( need to buy a new printer now) You do need at least 1 gig of ram. There is really no difference except the look when it comes to xp vs vista. i wanted xp on my new computer but new computers come with vista. I am actually to buy xp because I want to get the most out of my computer.. I had to buy Microsoft 2007 because 2005 didn't work with vista. I say WAIT until it is out at least 6 months and they get all the bugs out of it!

I don't care how much RAM etc you have I would not up grade to VISTA any time soon. Remember the ME mess and then the beginnings of 2000..ug it was not fun. Wait as long as you can. Also I would wait until you up grade your PC before you upgrade your system software.

No to many bugs in vista and not enough software available at the moment and it's to expensive XP just fine, consider a upgrade in a year or two

If your computer is running smooth now than you most likely will need 1gig due to the comfort level you have now. Vista on 512 will work but it does slow the machine down and you will surly see a difference if you have XP on 512 now.
