How do you do is a formal expression, used when you're introduced to someone. A good translation into Portuguese is Muito prazer, or Muito prazer em conhecê-lo (la) . lo - if you're being introdiced to a man, la - if you're being introduced to a woman.

For How are you, a good translation into Portuguese is Como vai? or como está? Both have the same meaning. You could also say Como vai você ou Como você está? WE've just added a portuguse pronounn equivalente to the English pronoun you.

Instead of você, you might use o Senhor or a Senhora, to be more formal, especially when you're talking to someone much oloder than you. . In the first case, if you're talking to a man, in the second one, if you're talking to a woman.

A very informal way to ask how are you? is Tudo bem?
