One of this country's leading dairies has announced that it will not use milk from cloned cows because consumers do not want it. Smaller companies like Ben & Jerry's also refuse to use it. How do you feel about this?http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/022307dnwashmilk.d48c77.html

A lot of the answerers on here are jumping to conclusions before they even understand the workings behind cloning animals. Would I drink milk from a cloned cow? Yes, because it's just milk, people! There's nothing tainted in a cloned cow, it's just another cow.

When cloning a cow, you are essentially creating another cow that has the exact same DNA as it's donor. THAT'S IT. There's no difference between the cloned cow, and the offspring of another cow besides less genetic diversity. There's no extra chemical by-products in a cloned cow that doesn't already exist in the donor cow. If you don't know the fairly simple procedure involved in cloning an animal, look it up.

Does this mean that I agree with using cloned cows? I have mixed-feelings. I believe it is very dangerous for any livestock industry to be messing with genetic diversity. Genetic diversity is a key factor in maintaining healthy immune systems in animal populations. If we start birthing cattle based on a minimal gene pool, then if any new epidemics were to begin and the cattle can't fight the disease, there could be massive losses of livestock, or even animal endangerment. Face it, if one cow can't fight it, and it's sister contracts it and has the same genes, then the sister is certainly doomed as well. Of course this is a worse-case scenario and I'm sure this would never actually occur.

I must not forget to mention that the agricultural industry always, contrary to popular belief, has figured out ways to counter such problematic events from occuring when it comes to genetic modification in crops including and excluding of livestock. As for a definite answer? I believe that cloning removes genetic diversity which is dangerous. Therefore, if they're planning on mass-producing clones (which they won't, they're not stupid) and it lessens the genetic diversity of cattle populations, then no, I don't believe in cloning cows.

What's the problem????

A cow is a cow!! So what if a cow has a twin (or triplet, or quad, etc.) that is one generation apart?? Come ON people! get a clue!

A clone is a twin, not a monster!

And the milk??? Cow milk is cow milk! Doesn't matter which cow it came from.

What do you think will happen to you if you drink "clone" milk?? Really, what do you think will happen??

Answer: NOTHING (except grow strong bones and teeth, and gain all the other health benefits, just like regular milk).

I'll drink it -- NO PROBLEM!

positive! Why no longer?! in case you imagine about it, all of us are clones to some degree. We posses features inherited from our moms and dads, and their moms and dads, and their moms and dads - etc. A cloned animal is in simple terms an animal who's features come thoroughly from it really is host. DNA extracted from a cellular is placed into an egg cellular and allowed to strengthen. (ok, it really is not any longer that straightforward, notwithstanding it really is the basic theory) We get our DNA it really is mixed by organic methods, while the cloned animal is especially given it really is DNA. it is going to probable be as healthful and as favourite because it really is host. A mini genuine reproduction. once you've a cow that grants extra perfect high quality milk and also you clone it, now you've a extra perfect milk grant. NOW GENETICALLY ALTERED is a diverse tale. Scientists experimenting with genes and not at all understanding precisely what they get. perhaps you will get a honey bee that grants milk. i do not imagine i'd drink it because i'd be allergic to it really is sting. That i'd not trust. yet reliable question. :)

No. And I encourage others not to also. Are foods are already contaminated by so many chemicals & food by products. I really worry most about the effects of cloned foods on our young children. Luckily for me I live in Michigan close to 2 dairy farms, so we get some very fresh milk. And both use no pesticde feeds. I say kudos to the companies that say no way to money saving dangers!

I think that cloned cows are as good as any cow for milk, I don't believe the milk is any different, people just think cloning is wrong, but think about it, if the original is good then the cloned would be as good.
