Hello friend,
If you are using high resolution vga or svga monitor means go to the "desktop" and "right click" then go for "properties". There is a dialog box will open in that go for "settings". Then go to color quality and adjust it as 1024 X 768. Click "apply" and "ok".

Firs of all, you have to know if your monitor and your video card are capable of show that resolution. Check instructions of both. In video card it depends mainly on memory installed.
Then check you have the last drivers provided by the manufacturer if it's possible; they're better than standard of the operating system.
If you're using Ms-Windows in Control panel => Screen => (tab) Configuration you'll be able to choose your resolution.

Ya all the above answers are correct. But I think the option for 1024x768 is not displayed in the display settings. If Im correct then install the latest verion of your display adapter. Tou can download it from internet if you know your display adapter's name and details. After installation of the new driver you'll get the option for 1024x768
