Within China, all airlines charge the same fare; however, they also have deep discounts on certain flights and times (up to 40% off).
AirAsia is a low-cost carrier, but they don't go to the places you listed.
The regularly scheduled airlines offer fares which vary widely; it is best to check their webpages (often cheaper than expedia.com or orbitz.com). By the way, you cannot use orbitz.com for flights beginning in Asia.
Sometimes, a code-share carrier will be cheaper than the primary carrier; for example, you can fly cheaper from Shanghai to Seoul on China Eastern using an Asiana code share than on Asiana, even on an Asiana airplane. This is a mystery, but often happens. Flag carriers (that is, the national airline, where you are going to/from are often the cheapest.

I can not tell you much about the international flights. Only that Northwest airline may be a good choice from tokyo to Guanzhou or Shanghai. Once in CHina though you may wish to check out www.elong.com or www.9588.com. Both of these agencies have greatly discounted airfares and accept international credit cards. I fly a lot domestically in China and have used both of these agencies and have been very happy with them. WACTS is also a good site. When flying from the USA i usually use USCHINATRIP.COM to book my flights with. They are by far the least expensive agency. Use the PC now and look at the prices for flights both in the international market and the domestic markets. You will be surprised.
