I started working with the PTA, but i am not able to do everything that they want me to do. I work from home but am not able to run around all the time. So i help out once in a while, but mostly I help out for the parties in my son's classroom and help out with buying things that are needed for the classroom. You should not feel obligated. If you are wanting to help out do it when you can.

You should feel obligated to spend some time volunteering with fundraising or helping out at school in the classroom, etc. NOT because of what other people will think, but because you care about your child! Parental involvement in school shows your child you care, that you think a good education is important, that you want to get to know his/her friends, makes the child feel special, increases the child's interest in school and learning, etc.

When my boys were in Elementary school I was the PTA president and always looked for mothers to help. If you want to get involved you can offer but only do the things you're able to do. Don't let anyone pressure you because then you will only resent it. If you get a chance, try spending a few hours a week in your child's classroom. Your child will feel special having you there helping their teacher. Believe it or not it makes them feel good about themselves and their school. It's always a good thing being involved in anything your child is involved in.

Yes, I do volunteer a lot since I am a sahm, but I do have other children, and they are always Welcome to come with me that's the only reason that I will volunteer a lot. You shouldn't feel obligated to volunteer you should want to volunteer when you feel you can. It WILL make you feel great inside! I liked someone else's answer also that your kids are only young once enjoy them!!! ;)

No, don't ever let the other over-zealous moms pressure or guilt you into anything. No should suffice. You really are not obligated to answer why. YOU are not the child! If you can do it once or so.....it will make you feel great. Your babies are only little once. Every sacrifice you make, you look back on when you're are Grandma and are pretty darn proud of.

I used to but the politics stopped me. Many of those women acted like High Schoolers with talking behind backs and such.

i volunteered once. took a bunch of 4th graders to the museum. lost a kid. (actually he joined another group and no one said diddly to me, including the teacher and the other mother) i was terrorized looked for the kid for an hour, just as i was reporting him missing i find the little bugger.
needless to say i never did it again.
by the way, the kid i lost was my own son!!!

Definitely!!!! But not because you think that other people want you to, but because you want to. It will give you a great opportunity to spend extra time with your child.
