people like you and I (average people) can run and win elelctions easily? Why or why
not?
2: How can the campaign process be structured to level the playing field for all

Our founding fathers did a pretty good job but they could not foresee the effect and tremendous cost of TV advertising. So - politicians must raise a lot of money to pay for ads. That , in and of itself, is ok - I have only a little bit of a problem with that.
The BIG problem is soft money and the contributions large corporations make to candidates. A large corporation should have no more influence over a politician than you or I. So the solution is to make the playing field level by limiting contributions to $100.00 and by only constituents.

1 = No, the average American can't run in an election easily. Money is to big of a factor. It costs around 350 to 500 million dollars to campaign to become president and actually have a chance of winning. The average American does not have that kind of money.
2 = I don't think it can be. The USA is a capitalist country (and thank god for that) and the person with more money often has more power. This isn't a bad thing, because I don't see how an average American can manage the USA's humongous budget, especially since a lot of the current politicians get that done.

Average people can run and win elections but the problem is that it takes way too much campaigning for funds and contributions. They spend more time building campaign war-chests than they should (especially at the federal level).
On #2, I think that all contributions should be pooled and the amount of funds available to each candiate are fixed at the same levels. Also, given that transmission frequencies are public assets, all radio, TV and satellite stations are to provide equal time and minimal cost to candidates.

Yes, That money could do better elsewhere. At this point nothing the McCain folks do or say would get me to vote for the stomp on the less fortunate republicans. I also feel Senator Obama's people will not convince you to come away from the dark side. All these ads are a waste. I need a van and some food and gas. I think Barry has a more rounded outlook on the world and life because of the people he has been in contact with. The GOP wants us to think it is bad to learn from people who are not like you. I learn from everyone I meet. I do not act like them. Most of the people I know are Pentecostal. You should hear them. "Look at that hussy over there with the tight pants and short hair. Is she a prostitute or a lesbian? She is not a decent woman or she would have long hair and she would be in a dress walking with her husband." "Look at that guy's tattoos. He will surely burn." "Get up we are leaving. I am not having a waiter with piercings. Devil worshipers." Fear of anything different from you sends you into hating. Nothing is wrong with Arab sounding names, or Muslims, or anyone else. I know many people from many places. It wasn't that long ago if you had German or Japanese friends you were bad. Anyone who speaks something other than English is not bad. Stop being afraid people and start learning.

Here's my opinion. So long as a candidate can get "x" amount of signatures on a petition to get him or her on the ballot, he's in. Give each of them a certain amount of money to campaign with and they aren't allowed to use any other source or additional amount. That's it, period. They are allowed to spend it to campaign in any way that they want such as all TV ads all radio ads or a mix of whatever. They can only spend it on campaigning and if anything is leftover, it goes back to where it came from. They have a month to six weeks to do their campaigning and then we vote. A level playing field for every candidate and we only have to hear about it for a short time.
