I think its supply and demand.
There are lots of ads for women. Look in the JC penney catalog. There will 80 pages of women's clothes and 14 pages or guys.
Women are looking for more variety so they need more models. Also women have more accessories. So you need more models for that also. And shoes and makeup....
And there are all those diet places! They need before and after. And nearly all are women.

I think its what they want an what they have on demand and what kind of clothing the designers are making most of them are into females clothing because they no most males would only wear a t shirt jeans and draggers while a female will want something new to wear everyday.
