Both places were a cable connection. I thought it depended on what ethernet card you had, but apparently not, since I have had the same card and it has said different things.

usually the Ethernet card you have will be capable of multi speed Ethernet communication...as in when they say that you have a 10/100/1000 they usually mean that it can cater to networks with speeds of 10Mbps or 100Mbps or 1000Mbps.
It depends on the network you're connecting to.
So it's no surprise..In fact I think you're very lucky that you're getting the actual network speed of data transfer.
This usually implies Transmission as well as reception bit rates.
dividing it by 16 will give you the approximate Download speed in Bytes per second...
as in Bps.

Not only yours , every computer will frequently fluctuate with the speed of 100Mbps and 10Mbps..It depends on the server u r in and the transfer rate of the webpage or the downloading content u currently hold. Some times when u r server is too busy or heavy loaded , it will sutomatically change to 10Mbos or if u are in a webpage or downloading which is on a slow server , u r connection will be redirected to 10Mbps...they wont gradually become more slow.

look 100mbps and 10 mbps is not u r internet speed,
it is the bandwith which u r catd supports
u r provider will be giving u 128/256 kbps but u r card will still show 10/100 mbps hence the fluctuation
also it is the format of most ethrnet cards

100mbps is faster. maybe that 10mbps computer is too far away or something is wrong with the cable. try cat5e cable maybe

100 mbps is faster. It means 'megabytes per second.' I think it's the ethernet cable, maybe one is slower.
Stay in the faster area.
