Acyclovir does NOT help in preventing the spread of genital herpes. The only thing acyclovir does is help suppress the virus and help make the outbreaks less severe. The only medication that has actually be proven to HELP prevent the spread of genital herpes is Valtrex. And, this only HELPS, it is not a guarantee.
Also, genital herpes can be passed whether the person is having an outbreak or not. I personally contracted genital herpes 6 years ago from a guy who was NOT on an outbreak and showed no signs of being on an outbreak. I also passed it to my fiance (boyfriend at the time) about a year and 1/2 ago. I hadn't had an outbreak in almost 2 years and I still passed it to him! It's called "shedding" when you are able to pass the virus but are showing no signs of an outbreak.
Condoms definitely help prevent the spread of genital herpes, but this is also not 100% effective. Things happen such as a condom breaking. And, genital herpes can be spread by just direct skin to skin contact, even if the guy wears a condom. The condom only covers the penis, but the rubbing back and forth of the genital area can spread the virus.

Please realize that you can spread Herpes even if you are not having an outbreak. It is in fact the way most cases of Herpes are spread. In fact you can have an outbreak an not even know it! WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE AN OUTBREAK YOU CAN STILL SPREAD THE DISEASE. It is called asymptomatic shedding, and it is a serious problem. Acyclovir and condoms will slightly minimize the risk, but your partner can still contract herpes from you even if you use a condom, acyclovir, and have no outbreak. That is why you must let all future partners know in advance that you have herpes. You are being very unfair if you do not let them know you have herpes in advance of any sexual conduct. Medications, condoms, and the fact that you think you are not having an active outbreak will NOT protect your future partners.
It is difficult to let your partners know, but you must. It is the only fair thing to do. If they get it form you, and you did not tell them, they will hate you, and have the ability to sue you in court since you already knew.

The thing about herpes is that you can actually be active, without having any symptoms. In other words, you may not have a break out, but the virus is active, which makes you contagious. Acycloivr gets to the DNA of the virus and destroyes it but, it is one of those mysteries of why and when. This is what we do know, that herpes is contagious, condoms do help with protection but it is not 100%, a decreased immune system also triggers outbreaks.
I know you have heard this 100 times, but truely, keeping a healthy diet, taking a multivitiamin and getting plenty of rest will help you maintain your outbreaks. I doubt your oral birthcontrol pills caused this break out. But, stranger things have happened.
Keep yourself healthy, get plenty of rest and exercise, Eat good three balanced meals daily and always use a condom when having sexual realationships.
I get oral herpes, not sure where I got them. I have had them before I ever kissed a boy. The only person in my family that ever got them was my grandmother. So, I am guessing her kisses are the cause. When I am stressed, when have not been getting enough sleep, and not eat right, I have a breakout. So, to give you a little insight on how the immune system can protect you from this.
Good luck.

Even if you use a condom, acyclovir, and have no outbreak, your partner is at risk. So you must let all future partners know in advance that you have herp.

I got identified with herpes (type 2) about 5 years ago, when I was still in college and had a mindless one-night stand. I know a lot of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone who has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/dwDiQ everything got better.
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.
