I want to travel from Borneo's Northern tip over to Palawan - is there a realistic and cheap way of getting there by boat/plane??

If you check the map it looks realistic. Borneo (Sabah), Malaysia side is basically facing the southern tip of Palawan and is quite near. However from what I have gathered and read in travel books there are no formal links from Borneo to Palawan. I don't know if there are those so called "informal" links between the islands which I do not suggest for security reasons. There are air and boat links from Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan, Borneo (Malaysia) to Zamboanga City in the Philippines. Though sea piracy could be a problem but so far there has been no report of such happening. However it is not a popular route for foreigners due to the delicate situation along the boats route. The boat passes by Sulu and Tawi Tawi islands which are the most troubled islands in the Philippines. Air flights are a much prefered choice.
