It's fine. I had braces and used to chew gum all the time. You chew with the flat part of your tooth, and the braces are on the front of your tooth. Just don't chew if you have elastics in your braces.

I had braces and chewed gum with no problems. Just make sure it's not a gum with a hard shell. As a matter of fact my ortho told me that chewing the gum actually makes your teeth move into place quicker because of the added pressure of chewing.

Hey!! I got my braces on the 17th and I ate doritos yesterday! I just broke it up into smaller pieces because I have bite stoppers and stuff but I was fine! Just make sure you bring your tooth brush and brush after you eat. You can probably buy a thermos and just warm up soup or noodles in the microwave before you go to school, throw it in there, and eat that for lunch. I do that a lot during the school year even without braces.

No it's not, it may seem harmless but the gum will get stuck under the brackets and will cause decay which will cause cavities and longer treatment time. And who wants to have braces longer than they have to?

I work in an orthodontic office and we tell our patients that if you must chew gum then make sure it is sugarfree because the sugar can build up behind your brackets and cause decay.
