I got braces when I was in 6th grade and if I can remember correctly I think they hurt for a few days. The wires are straightening and pulling your teeth which is why it hurts. Just take some aspirin, it might help a little, but just stick with it because your teeth are going to be awesome when you get your braces off!

Spacers usually hurt the most because they push the teeth apart to make room to put the braces in. The pain subsides in a few days and by the time the braces are put in the space has become normal. Braces no longer really hurt. They are just uncomfortable and annoying. During your treatment the only part of the process that might actually hurt is when they put new bands/wires in. This is because they push and pull at your teeth. Again, this feeling goes away in a couple of days. If it becomes intolerable then just take some ibuprofen. Just make sure to maintain good hygiene!

I'm surprised that your dentist didn't give you something for the pain. Until you get used to the braces, they will feel tight and uncomfortable. Your dentist must have instructed you on what foods you could eat, probably soft things for a while. The braces should ease up after a while, but every time they are tightened, you'll have the soreness for a while. It will be worthwhile in the long run when the end result is a set of beautiful straight teeth. But for right now, give him a call and ask if you can get a prescription for a mild pain killer. Good luck!

I have braces on right now. They hurt when you first get them and they hurt when they get tightened but it is definately worth it in the end. You will have strait teeth. Soft food is the only thing i could eat at first. Don't try and bite into anything cuz that make your teeth hurt real bad. Asprin, Advil, or any kind of pain remover will be helpful. As for the length it depends on how bad your teeth are. My teeth hurt for a whole week then finnaly stopped. Good luck and hope you can take the pain!

Usually after an adjustment appointment or immediately after placeing braces, they do hurt, but for 3 days maximum and then your body adapts. You may need to take a mild pain killer.

It also depends on how old you are. The older you are, the more difficult it is to make your teeth move, therefore the more painful. Ibuprofen will be helpful, if you are a teenager, you should not take aspirin, it puts you at risk for Reye's syndrome which can be deadly.
