If you have a program that requires 256 colors, right-click on the program's icon in the Start menu, then click Properties. Click on the 'Compatibility' tab, then check the box beside 'Run in 256 colors'.

By rule, 256 colors is 32 bit, so no. 8 bit would look like something puked a bad mix of Jello and Kool-Aid on your monitor.

Hi. Right-click on your desktop, select 'Properties> Settings>' and set to whatever you want.

if you don't see 8bit color on your setting remove display driver ^^;

i dont know it will work -_- sometimes xp will reinstall them..
