What i would like to do is just buy XP and install it on the new one but want someone's input so i don't ruin the new system.

I wouldn't, as the drivers and all the software that came with your new system will be set up for Vista. You'll end up with no sound, and possibly no internet, if you wipe it, unless you already have XP drivers for the system.

What exactly don't you like about Vista? I know it's different, but give it a chance and you may end up liking it.

Hi there.

No, you can't downgrade from Vista to XP with just Vista CD. You'll need the XP CD, which u you need to buy.

Here's a perfect site with photos to help you step by step to install Windows XP. It's very very good.

Note: When you come to the part where you select your drive to install Vista, you'll get a message that there is an existing OS on it, just proceed to overwrite/delete it. Also, you'll need to have all your driver CDs with you on hand during the XP installation. Otherwise, you'll have to go online to get the drivers.

Note 2: I am putting off using Vista until SP1 comes out. From what I heard, that many drivers aren't yet available for most of the hardware out there. People are rushing too soon to use Vista not knowing that most computer manufacturers still haven't updated their drivers to work on Vista.

Note 3: Don't forget to make a backup of all your stuff you want to keep (burn them to a CD). As they will be all gone once you delete your Vista OS.

Hope this helps you out, and good luck! :-)

No you can't downgrade especially with all Windows operation system.

I would highly advised against Windows Vista. Don't do it even if the big company like Best Buy and Geek Squad said so!
